Growing Tips:
These are cool season hardy-annuals, so they will enjoy our cool maritime nights and bloom from late April until the heat of summer kicks in.
Plant your seedling with lots of compost, a little organic fertilizer and water them deeply once a week. They do ok with a little neglect :)
In the Garden:
Plant your seedling in a sunny spot where you can enjoy it returning every year. They will re-seed prolifically if allowed, but the babies are easy to pull up if they become too many. They are tall, so backs of borders and tight corners are great spots to fill up with these flowy stems.
In the Vase:
For the longest vase-life, cut at the base of the stem when the colour is just cracking through the fuzzy outer ‘shell’ of the flower (they won’t look like much for a day or so, but peel back the shell a bit and they’ll pop open beautifully!). Place in clean, cool water, cutting stems on an angle to allow them to hydrate. Refresh the water every few days.
